Tackling “conceptual emergencies” – working with the International Futures Forum

Posted by

On Monday this week, I joined a group of senior clinicians, managers, policy makers and campaigners at an event in Scotland hosted by the International Futures Forum.

Stimulated by the recent IFF publication “Costing and Arm and a Leg” the group worked to imagine a “third horizon” for healthcare beyond managing demand and cost.

It was a fascinating day during which we developed multiple narratives around “Plan B”, a transformative story which reconnects with the core purposes of a healthcare system for the 21st Century.

The International Futures Forum (IFF) is a non-profit organisation established to support a transformative response to complex and confounding challenges and to restore the capacity for effective action in today’s powerful times. Their charitable purpose is to share the learning from their experience more broadly and to increase the capacity worldwide to realise aspiration in the operating conditions of the 21st century.

The outcomes from the day were published in The Scotsman.
